When you want to set up your router you can do this either manually or with the help of the Setup CD which comes along with the router. However, in some situations when you insert the CD in your CD or DVD reader on your PC or laptop nothing happens, i.e. the setup won’t start.
If this happens it means that your PC or laptop isn’t configured to automatically open CDs. So, how to solve this issue and continue with the setup? There are 2 ways.
Method 1: Start the setup manually
If the setup CD doesn’t open, the easiest thing to do is to open My Computer in Windows and browse to the CD. Once you open the CD, you can start the setup process by clicking Setup.exe and following the instructions.
Method 2: Check the AutoPlay check box
If you don’t want to manually locate the CD-rom and start the setup from there, you can easily enable your PC or laptop to open any CD automatically. Simply follow these steps:
1. Click the Start Button
2. Go to Control panel (it’s on the right)
3. In the new window select Hardware and Sound.
4. Navigate to AutoPlay.
5. Since your Setup CD didn’t open when you inserted it, chances are that Use AutoPlay for all media and devices was unchecked. Check it and save the changes.
An easier way to access the AutoPlay menu is by typing autoplay in the Find files and programs field and pressing Enter on your keyboard.
In the new window see if Use AutoPlay for all media and devices is checked or not.
Insert the Setup CD again. It should start normally. The router setup can begin.
You can also setup your router manually but this process will be discussed in details in another article.
